Letter From Recruitment Chair
My name is Carly Guidry, and I am honored to be Phi Mu’s recruitment chair. I am excited that you are considering participating in Formal Recruitment here at Nicholls State! Greek Life at Nicholls is truly thriving and pushing women to flourish into the on-campus leaders they strive to be.
As a proud member of Phi Mu for the past three years, I can personally say that I have made lifelong friends and sisters who I share so many memories and fun times with and support and encourage each other to excel in all areas of life. It is difficult to put into words how amazing and empowering it was to join my sorority, but I’ll try my best to give you a little glimpse.
Phi Mu has made me proud to represent Nicholls and be a Colonel. Being surrounded with sisters so heavily involved and even holding leadership positions in many on-campus organizations like Student Government Association, Student Programming Association, Fraternities’ “sweetheart” courts, Orientation Team, Honor Societies, Circle K, Colonel Catholics, Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and many more, it has inspired and encouraged me to branch out and get involved in the Nicholls community while serving alongside my sisters whom I share many laughs and memories.
With that being said, Phi Mu has made my college experience better than I ever could have imagined as well as the best years of my life. I have had sisters who have laughed with me through my best days and cried with me on my worst days. From “cheer up” ice-cream dates and present “congratulations” messages to the numerous inside jokes and hashtags, the late night phone calls or texts, road trips to visit sisters in other states, mission trips abroad, shopping trips to find the perfect dress for formal… I could go on and on. These are more than friends. These are sisters whom you will share a bond with for the rest of your life.
Phi Mu has made me strive to be to be my best self in all aspects of my life. Our chapter at Nicholls State not only encourages but takes steps to help our members attain their best GPA, and develop their life skills that are learned through our weekly Monday meetings. As members of Phi Mu, we truly live by our creed which outlines our three ideals: Love, Honor, and Truth. We LOVE our philanthropy (a sorority’s main charity that they support) CMNH or Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and take trips each year to visit the patients and their families. This past year alone, we raised nearly $30,000.00 for CMNH through our huge community/campus fundraiser: Dodge-a-Paluza, all of which was raised by our members who truly go above and beyond for the children at CMNH. Our dedicated members work so hard for this fundraiser and always remember #ForTheKids when fundraising gets tough.
I am always proud and honored to be a member of our Kappa Eta chapter who feel more like family to me. The fact that I always see familiar faces nearly anywhere I go on campus and off and can pick up with sisters right where we left off last even when years have gone by. It makes me so thankful for my collegiate sorority years and makes me less saddened for when I have to transition into my alumni years.
Our chapter is well-respected and highly regarded by our peers, alumnae, Nicholls staff, and community of Nicholls and Thibodaux. I am thrilled that you are taking this interest in Greek life and hope you reach out to find out even more about our chapter. I look forward to personally seeing and meeting you ladies during Recruitment this Fall 2019! You can sign up for recruitment on the Nicholls website starting June 2019.
